This lesson will help you understand the adjectives in Arabic, and
enables you to use real examples shown below. If you have any question let us
know by clicking on the “Contact us” button, this lesson is very important
since it covers a very widely used element in Arabic which is the adjective.
In
Arabic to form the adjectives, you need
to don’t need to do anything if it’s masculine, you just place it after the
noun it modifies, exactly the opposite of English. A small house: baitun
sagheer بيت
صغير (literally house small).
To
form a feminine adjective from the masculine, you simply add “taa’ marbuta”
which looks like ((ة, ــة
to the end of the adjective… for example:

Arabic
Adjectives

|
Big:
Kabeer كبير (masculine)
è Big: kabeera كبيرة (feminine)
Small:
Sagheer صغير (masculine) è Small: sagheera صغيرة (feminine)
Beautiful:
Jameel جميل (masculine) è Beautiful: jameela جميلة(feminine)
|
Note
that adding the “taa’ marbuta ة,
ــة ” is not always the
case to form the feminine of a masculine adjective. There are some exceptions
to this:
Colors
and most adjectives starting with “a”/ “ أ ” for example take in most cases a
different form, which is represented in this model word è (?a??aa’), the question marks should be replaced by
the consonants of the masculine adjective and place them respectively in the
place of the question marks, here are some examples:
Blue
è azraq أزرق (masculine) è (its consonants are: zrq ) è
(?a??aa’) question
mark model è zarqaa’ زرقاء
Dumb
è abkam أبكم (masculine) è bkm (raw consonants) è
(?a??aa’) raw model è bakmaa’ بكماء
Plural adjective in Arabic:
The
way to form a plural adjective is the same way you form a plural noun, we
already discussed that in a separate page (forming the
plural in Arabic)
Just
remember that the adjective follows the noun, and not the opposite like in
English.
